Pantone's Emerald Green and Spring 2013

There’s been a lot of debate over what Pantone is calling “Emerald Green.” PANTONE 17-5641, Emerald Green, is the color for 2013. It really looks more like a teal green to me. I like it, but I’m not planning on going nuts with this color. I think I will focus on the complimentary tones for Spring 2013 and use Emerald Green for highlights.

This is not your ordinary Shambala style bracelet - the beads are NOT acrylic - the resin core is encrusted with Egyptian glass rhinestones. Egyptian glass rhinestones are applied by hand for eye-catching high-quality beads with extreme sparkle. Featuring a lightweight resin core, the beads are created in a multi-step process: First, the bead is pressed, then covered in two-part epoxy. Next, the rhinestones are hand-applied and the bead is set aside to dry. Once dry, each bead is inspected for quality. Sizes, shapes and colors may vary with handcrafted items. The resulting sparkle is unsurpassed! Each bead is a sparkling little jewel in of itself. I was fortunate to find a supplier of these beads of such amazing quality!

An Interview With Kate Brooks of Pieces of Home Mosaics

I’m back with an interview with Kate Brooks of Pieces of Home Mosaics! Be sure to check her Etsy About page and shop!!

How long have you been involved in creating mosaics/fused glass and how did you start?

I started playing around with mosaics & fusing glasses almost 2 years ago. I was an empty nester and needed something to do! Here’s the thing… You can only clean and watch TV for so long before you feel dead inside. I had to find me…well, i found me. I found me sitting in the middle of vintage tiles (that I found for free and made my hubby go get) with a hammer. I found out that I just loved it! Find your passion and the world is yours!

What is your favorite piece and why?

Oh, wow! Now that is a question! Hmmm, that’s like asking which kid you love best! But I will say, I enjoy working on my windows the most. I love taking those old vintage windows and transforming them into something beautiful! Giving them a second life filled with color.

Where do you see your shop this time next year?

I am not sure where I see my shop in a year from now. I know I need to keep getting the word out about my shop. I do have plans to start a blog to help spread the word about Pieces of Home Mosaics and to help spread the word about other amazing handmade artists! I love what I do and want to be able to continue to provide customers quality handmade items…with beauty and color and texture and fun!

Could you tell us a little about yourself?

The idea of broken pieces becoming whole is my truth. This message touches my soul. My mosaics are intended to reflect that beauty is all our pieces integrated together!

I think life is just like a mosaic. In life, we invite all sorts of people into our lives.

In my family… I am adopted; my parents took me in and made a whole.

In my family…we have opened our hearts and home by fostering a few amazing kids.

I figure if you just add the grout of love you will have the best mix of awesome you can get!

I am a wife and mother. I am also a preschool owner and teacher. I have found the love of mosaics and now I am an artist! Life is an amazing adventure!
